... DAYS GONE BY ...

How can it already be September?  It must be, because my watch tells me that, so does my phone, iPad, Laptop … and my constant companion in The Studio … Alexa!

However, when I looked around inside The Studio this week, it seemed time had stood still … in January, March and again in July!  I’d forgotten to change the dates on three of my ‘old school’ time keepers.  I still love a large format Calendar (I reuse them in my Vintage Style Calendar Baskets) … and my timber Lang Calendar Frame usually holds Janet Wecker Frisch’s  ‘She Who Sews’ Calendar, except this year. She didn’t publish one … but I’ve found out there’s another one coming for next year – my search is on for a copy of it!

I love her artwork, and have two large appliqué designs to make for the back walls of The Studio … oh, there are just too many things on my ‘need to do’ list than my ‘want to sew’ list at the moment.  I’m hoping that’s about to change.  Lots of tools and ‘stuff’ have been used this week, as I’ve been busy with Bernina Academy preparation still.  I hope to have it all completed by the end of the weekend.

There is a stack of dressmaking awaiting me after that … and it took me the best part of a day on Tuesday, to trace off and cut out patterns ready to start on those next week.  I’m off to Sydney in just over 2 weeks, and of course … I have nothing suitable to wear … we all know how that feels!

Luckily, I have a great stash … already washed and ready to cut out!

Now, it’s getting late (seems I say that every week … but it’s the truth! … it just ticked over to midnight!), so best I get into the reason for this Blog, my Big Book of Feet Challenge.

Freehand Quilting Foot #29/#29C

The Spring-loaded feet just keep on coming!  This foot, designed specifically for quilting, sits just above the fabric when it is lowered. This enables you to manoeuvre the fabric to easily follow a design.  It has a clear sole, giving you a perfect view of both the needle and stitching areas at all times.

Options available for the foot – It’s available in a regular version suitable for all models and a ‘C’ version designed for models with 9mm maximum stitch width.

Foot #29/#29C had 4 different techniques to stitch out.

... This Week’s Foot Highlights or Challenges ...

As they were all Quilting techniques, I saved time and fabrics by using one larger ‘quilt sandwich’ and separated the areas with one of my favourite decorative quilt stitches … # 1320

‘Freehand Quilting’  – Simple warm up shapes and designs that I usually do before popping a project under the needle.  I find these ‘exercises’ give me just the perfect practice if I haven’t quilted for a while.

‘Continuous Line Quilting’  – Well, haven’t freemotioned for a while, so my feathers look rather ‘organic’ … I think I need to do some practice here!  I do love feathers using my Amanda Murphy Rulers and Foot #72, so I was a bit like a ‘duck out of water’ today when I was stitching!  But … great view of my drawn lines with this clear foot!

‘Outline and Echo Quilting’  – Starting to look a bit better I guess, but still a bit jerky as I stopped and started.  Needle Stop Up/Down function is a total MUST!

‘Stipple Quilting’  – Would have been a good idea to get my quilting gloves out I thought … when I was halfway through this sample!  I did change my thread colour to blend in with the base fabric, and this always helps to ‘disguise’ the imperfections when you first start on your freehand quilting adventures.

A rather rushed sample this week, however still love this foot after many years of using it!  I don’t even own the #29C, as I’ve found I’ve not wanted to use a 9mm wide stitch with this foot anyway, but there are fabulous Art Quilters out there I totally am in awe of that utilise more than straight stitch with this foot!
